A New Era of Cell Phones- Music Phones – Mp3 Phones

You sometimes see cell phone manufacturers talk about music phones. What is it then? A music phone is a phone optimized for playing music. The idea with music phones, smartphones and camera phones is that one would have only one device instead of many. A music phone combines a cell phone and a portable music player. Every major cell phone manufacturer has them.

Sony Ericsson introduced the Walkman phones, Motorola launched the ROKR iTunes and Nokia delivers music phones under the XpressMusic phone brand.

More than 100 million music phones were sold in 2005 and that is more than double the number of portable MP3 players and some 12 percent of cell phones sold in 2005 were music phones.

Music Phone Characteristics

Here is some typical characteristics of a music phone. When comparing music phones look at these key features.

Downloading MP3s Made Easy – Mp3

Downloading MP3s Made Easy by: Keith Kingston The MP3 movement started out with a huge audience of music enthusiasts on the internet. The MP3 digital music format has had, and will continue to have, a huge impart on how people, gather, listen to and share music.

The MP3 format is a compression system for digital music that helps reduce the size of a digitized song without disturbing the sound quality. Digital music is converted to MP3 format and made available for use, usually via the web. MP3 files can be downloaded onto your computer from the internet and special software, either commercial or freeware. Using your computer and software you can convert digital music from a CD into MP3 format.

MP3 files can be played in three different ways:

They can be played directly onto your computer. They can be decompressed and recorded onto a CD. These files can be played on a portable MP3 player. The advantage of MP3 players is that they are small, lightweight and rugged. They are a great way to carry your MP3 files with you!

With a portable MP3 player, a personal computer, and the appropriate software, you can do the following:

Obtain free or low-cost music from the web. Create your own mix of music by downloading MP3 files from the web and converting the tracks from CDs. Listen to near-CD quality music wherever you go. Listen to more music (up to 10 hours worth). If you want to convert your songs from your CDs into MP3 files, you can use ripper and encoder software. A ripper copies a songs file from the CD onto your hard disk. The encoder compresses the song into the MP3 format. By encoding songs, you can play them on your computer or take them with you on your MP3 player. The ripper and encoder software may come with your MP3 player.

The specific instructions will vary with the individual software programs, but the following steps will definitely take place:

Place the CD from which you want to convert songs into your drive. Select the track(s) that you want to convert to MP3 format. Convert the selected track(s). Copy the new MP3 files on to your computers hard disk. Now you are ready to download these MP3 files into your portable MP3 player.

Once you have MP3 files on your computer, you can use the software that came with your MP3 player to download the files into your MP3 player. Again, the specific instructions will vary depending upon your software program and player, but you will:

Create a playlist from your MP3 files. Plug the player into your computers parallel of USB port. Transfer the MP3 files according to the instructions. Once you have downloaded the MP3 files into your portable MP3 player, you are ready to take your music anywhere. Most MP3 players are small, lightweight, and solid-state. Because most players are solid-state, there are no moving parts to break down or skip, so the sound quality is uninterrupted regardless of your physical activity. MP3 players are equipped with various types of headphones or earpieces.

Portable MP3 players can play music longer than a portable CD player. The length of play for a CD player is about 74 minutes, the length of one CD. However, the length of play for an MP3 player depends upon its memory capacity, which can be upgraded on some models. A standard MP3 player can play for about half an hour (32 MB) to a few weeks (40 GB)! Some models can be upgraded with additional memory devices. http://www.distribuidoromnilife.com/a1_word_directory_internet.htm

Skyhook Wireless Partners with ReignCom to Power the First Location-Aware Personal Media Player – Mp3 Player

iriver W10 is the First Location Aware Device that Includes the Wi-Fi
Positioning System for Local Mobile Search and Navigation

LAS VEGAS
–(Business Wire)– Jan. 9, 2007 Skyhook Wireless Inc., provider of the Wi-Fi
Positioning System(TM) (WPS), today announced at the 2007 International Consumer
Electronics Show (CES) that ReignCom, a Korean manufacturer of media devices,
will launch the Wi-Fi enabled iriver W10 portable media player with the Wi-Fi
Positioning System from Skyhook Wireless. This device will be the first
commercially available media player with location awareness, and will provide
consumers with accurate location, enabling them to easily find places and things
around them.

ReignCom, known in the U.S. for its iriver brand of MP3 players, is unveiling
a prototype of the iriver W10 portable media player at the NavTeq booth (#36226)
at CES this week.

The iriver W10 media player is designed for the ‘urban explorer.’ At a slim
14 mm thick, the iriver W10 comes loaded with full-function multimedia
capability. The Wi-Fi Positioning System provides accurate location information
by detecting Wi-Fi access points in range and comparing them against a database
of geo-located points. Unlike GPS or cell tower systems, the WPS works indoors
and in dense urban areas. Not only can a W10 user listen to music, watch movies,
or play games on the go, but can also navigate and retrieve information about
what is around them.

The iriver W10 comes preloaded with a mobile search guide that allows users
to locate and navigate to local Points of Interest (POIs) such as banks, ATMs,
transit stops and tourist destinations as well as access rich content like
information on hotels, restaurants and shopping. The W10 highlights the trend
toward more feature-rich media players and is ideal for those who want to
explore everything that a city has to offer.

‘The iriver W10 reinforces ReignCom’s strong commitment to enter the Location
Based Services space and represents a real breakthrough in the way mobile urban
consumers can use personal multimedia players to explore the exciting options of
the city around them,’ stated Kenny Choe, marketing director, ReignCom.
‘Skyhook’s innovative location platform enables ReignCom to deliver a more
compelling mobile experience for our customers.’

‘The iriver W10 is the first device that relies on the Wi-Fi Positioning
System, rather than a GPS chip, to enable navigation,’ said Michael Shean,
co-founder and vice president of business development for Skyhook Wireless. ‘The
W10 is more accurate and reliable in urban areas than other navigation systems
and it sets a new standard for personal media player capabilities.’

The iriver W10 will be commercially available in the US in April 2007.
