We first ran into the new Motorola Backflip Smartphone during the Sneak Preview, an event preceding the Consumer Electronics Show 2010 in Las Vegas. The CES is the most important consumer electronics show of the world. Before that, it was mostly a rumor going around about a new Motorola Smartphone with a unique design. And the design of the Motorola Backflip handset is indeed unique. Although the Backflip smartphone from Motorols is no high-end phone, it still has some unique qualities; a bit of a different design, a touch panel on the back of the display(!), and a back with a keypad. Additionally, the display can be almost entirely ‘turned around’ to then be positioned above the keypad.

Cricket Communications, provider of unlimited wireless services and subsidiary of Leap Wireless International, and Samsung Mobile announce the availability of the new Samsung Stunt (SCH-R100). A slim, sleek and stylish bar phone, the Samsung Stunt phone comes loaded with Mobile Web, Games & Apps, Bluetooth, long battery life, speakerphone and voice commands. In addition, Crickets MyBackup, which enables subscribers to automatically protect their mobile contacts without the hassle of data cables, is available on the Samsung Stunt via a link in the contact list. The Samsung Stunt mobile phone is a sophisticated evolution from its predecessor, the Samsung SCH-R211, and features a larger 128 x 160 color display and slimmer design.

It did not come as a surprise that the first mobile phones equipped with Windows Mobile 6.5 software were HTC phones, since HTC is considered market leader of Windows Mobile Smartphones. The HTC Touch 2 and HTC HD2 are the first HTC models featuring this system. Although several models were already launched onto the market earlier with the ability to download a free update to Windows Mobile 6.5. The NTT Docomo booth at the Mobile World Congress is always a good place to find a remarkable and unique mobile product. Next to the wooden smartphone, the NTT Docomo Touch Wood, we also ran into the NTT Docomo F-04B handset. On the whole it looks futuristic, especially when it appears that by pushing on the bottom of the NTT F-04B, it can be split into two pieces. The fun part is that the separate pieces can still communicate with each other through Bluetooth technology. Additionally, very ingenious, it is even possible to choose which or both pieces will be used for communication. Both pieces have a microphone and speaker. But how does the battery work?

HTC Mobile was also present and presented several interesting mobile products during the Mobile World Congress in Spain, including the new HTC Legend Smartphone. That was not really a surprise anymore, as several rumors already appeared at the end of 2009 wherein the HTC Legend, among others was named. But holding the final, functioning product in your hands is still always the moment of the first impression. After the presentation we took the time to give the HTC Legend a more thorough look. The first thing that we noticed is that it’s solid, in terms of body quality, without making this new HTC smartphone heavy to hold.
