Kidd is king of the 1st NBA Impact Player Rankings

NBA Impact is a new system of rating basketball player performance. In the first release of the new season (12th of November) point guard Jason Kidd tops the league. The rankings show a player's positive productivity whilst on the court, in essence it shows which players benefit their team the most during their playing time.

Creator, Kevin Abaa-Ogley said the NBA Impact player rankings were created, "As a response to generic statistical analysis and player rankings." Instead of just adding together the statistical categories, the Impact Rankings are far more detailed.

What this system does is cut through the hype and accurately show the value of a player's minutes to his team. The Rankings are based on a formula that includes such details as the value of each possession, playing time, scoring, and field goal percentage.

The formula does not show who the best player is in the NBA, but it does show which players are the most valuable in terms of positive contribution to their teams (also it shows those who are the least productive).

The NBA Impact Player Rankings are compiled weekly but are available at anytime upon request. Features available include

League Leaders (min 5 games & 24 mpg)
At this early stage of the season productive point guards lead to successful teams. Grant Hills' return has been impressive and with Shaq out Kobe has had to shoulder the workload for the Lakers.

Player          Team     Impact Score Position
Jason Kidd     Nets          1.15          pg
Grant Hill     Magic          1.09          sf
Gary Payton     Sonics          1.07          pg
Kobe Bryant     Lakers          0.99          sg
Steve Nash     Mavs          0.97          pg

League Lows (min 5 games & 24 mpg)
The 5 players whose time on court has had the lowest positive impact for their team.

Player                    Team Impact Score Position
Bruce Bowen          Spurs          0.29          sf
DeShawn
Stevenson               Jazz               0.33          sg
Morris Peterson     Raptors     0.38          sf
Jumaine Jones          Cavs               0.4               sf
Trenton Hassell     Bulls          0.41          sg

As a general indicator, any Impact Score over 0.8 is very good and any less than 0.5 is low.

All NBA 1st Team (min 5 games & 24 mpg)- 1 player per position.
The East contributes 3 players and the West 2 in the first NBA Impact All NBA Team

Player              Team Impact Score Position
Jason Kidd    Nets    1.15     pg
Grant Hill    Magic    1.09     sf
Gary Payton    Sonics    1.07     pg
Kobe Bryant    Lakers    0.99     sg
Steve Nash    Mavs    0.97     pg

Each position in the All NBA team is competitive. Kidd (the overall league leader) is under pressure from Payton and Nash, Can Kobe continue to be the Lakers offense? Can Grant Hill stay healthy and retain his small forward position in face of competition from Garnett and Nowitzki? Can Webber maintain his form on his return from injury and how will Brad Millers' position at the All NBA Center position be affected by the return of Shaq?

Again, congratulations to Jason Kidd for being the most productive player in the NBA and the first NBA Impact Player of the week.

These are just a few up-to-date samples of what is available. NBA impact can be used to analyze everything from position to rookies to sixth man.
